Sometimes the reality hits me that I'm really here, at ASU.
This weird, loser-infested , desolate wasteland, liberal institution.
Like, cmon. Is this for reals? Did I really walk past that, or read this, or hear that without a second glance? I can't believe I'm used to all of this stuff. A year ago, I would have been screaming and running away.
How come I think Herberger is going to be any different?
Yesterday, I recorded a show on the educational tv channel. It was about "The World of Music."
I started playing it because I thought it was going to be interesting.
I watched it for 3 minutes before deleting the thing.
They had uppity, college professors discussing what the 'definition of music' really is. An Asian guy said, "It's the sounds I make from my violin," and other nincompoops saying, "It's outrageous for anyone to tell someone else that what they call music, really isn't music. Who are they to say it? If it's music for someone, then it's still music."
*Cue the 20th century audio barf coming from the piano. And include various musical styles from all around the world: the wailing of the nomads on the Mongolian plains, incessant drumming from the Pakistanis, and yodels ranging across the Swiss Alps.*
I'm pretty sure I'll have to write a dissertation on this or something at Herberger.
Now I understand why Mr. Bardin decided to not teach college.
I guess I just need to suck it up.
