Waking Up From the Pill

Waking Up From the Pill

Probably the most enthralling article I've read this year.

It even beats all the Christopher Nolan interviews I read feverishly over the summer.

I don't believe in karma... but...

Texting
Sunday 10:30 PM

Josh
I am sick and can't go to school tomorrow. Can you turn in my project for me?

Eve
you're sick? what do you have? ok sure

Josh
A sore throat. Thanks.

Eve
O maybe i will be sick too

Josh
I legit sick

Eve
I legit talk in broken english

The next day my throat felt a little funny. And this carried on until Tuesday. Wednesday I was 'legit sick' also, and felt SUPER crummy and was scrambling to do all my homework in time for Thursday. Stayed home from school on Thursday. Stayed home from school all day today watching a House marathon, and finished off the day watching Bizet's 'Carmen' on the DVR. Dad was super angry to hear opera, so I decided to practice piano.
The lesson here is: you shouldn't secretly wish to be sick on a Sunday night--needing to wake up in 5 hours--because you might actually become sick and feel crappy.

Graduating high school--along with other sad things--is just a new step in life. A more independent one. And it's coming at me whether I'm ready for it, or not.
I hate that everybody else is wayyy more self-sufficient than I am; and they constantly remind me of this.
But it's good to not compare.

*HURR DURR*

(Eve on her potential future in filmmaking)

"Success isn't what I'm looking for.
Just something done REALLY well."

There's a concept! Watch out, Hollywood!!

Driving

Got my permit last week and drove in the car with the driving instructor! It was so scary and confusing. But I stayed calm, and the lady was impressed at how well I was doing. By the end, driving wasn't that hard, and I truly think I can handle this growing up stuff. :]

Do Re Mi

I'm doing Do Re Mi this summer. It's a musical theatre camp. We're doing Bye Bye Birdie, and I wasn't too happy about that at first. "If it's anything like Grease, I'm not doing it."
Wrong.
This play is really cute, and I love the music and dancing! The 14th marks the halfway point in the 3-week-long camp. Today was the first time I've noticed us all collaborating and really gettin' into the dances. I can't wait for the shows!

October 3, 1993

"And the job demanded more. It demanded all you had, and more . . . because the price of failure was often death. That’s why Howe and the rest of the D-boys loved it. It separated them from other men. War was ugly and evil, for sure, but it was still the way things got done on most of the planet. Civilized states had non-violent ways of resolving disputes, but that depended on the willingness of everyone involved to back down. Here in the raw Third World, people hadn’t learned to back down, at least not until after a lot of blood flowed. Victory was for those willing to fight and die. Intellectuals could theorize until they sucked their thumbs right off their hands, but in the real world, power still flowed from the barrel of a gun. If you wanted the starving masses in Somalia to eat, then you had to outmuscle men like this Aidid, for whom starvation worked. You could send in your bleeding-heart do-gooders, you could hold hands and pray and sing hootenanny songs and invoke the great gods CNN and BBC, but the only way to finally open the roads to the big-eyed babies was to show up with more guns. And in this real world, nobody had more or better guns than America. If the good-hearted ideals of humankind were to prevail, then they needed men who could make it happen. Delta made it happen."

Childish

Math was so hard today. It took the class 90 minutes to do the test and most of us failed miserably. There was a lot of stress, getting yelled at by the teacher, and distractions from a really distracting person on the right side of the room. So mean, immature, and provoking, I actually cried. The rest of us wanted to cry, and shut Distractor up, but the teacher ignored it.
Is this what happens at the end of the year!?!? We're falling apart!

White House Correspondents Dinner

article from NBC

The President also mentioned Sen. John McCain's recent claim that he was not "identified" as a maverick. "And we know what happens in Arizona when you don't have an ID. ... Adios amigos."

hahahahahhahahaha no

Immigration Bill

Let me try and explain this, as I would to a group of 2nd graders. *ahem Pelosi*

If you were a legal immigrant, you would possess a Green Card. You carry this card like any other type of identification.
If the police were to request credentials, you would show them your Green Card.

Unless, you were illegal, then...you wouldn't have one. You'd be in trouble.
Sounds like a great time to start crowing, "RACIAL PROFILING!"

Lo-Lo's Chicken and Waffles. Going there tomorrow night.
I was little put-off by the pictures online: Big plate o' fried chicken, waffles with syrup, bowl of grits, and Kool-Aid in a mason jar.

Working on Beethoven

"Welcome to the advanced level."
I can't tell you how many times my piano teacher has said this to me. It's his answer to every problem: "This is hard." "Do I really have to drill these scales ad nauseum?" etc.

Beethoven Pathetique Sonata in C Minor--first movement--must be completed, and in memory, by April 19th.

Then for two weeks I will practice 4x a day, for 15 minutes, and drill and write, and drill some more. This ensures stage readiness.

This music stuff? It's hard work.

And it's so convenient that the week I must put it into memory, a million little problems arise. Just slips and errors...terrible things. And as I play them, I realized every time I make those errors, over and over, they are being ingrained into my memory, to arise again in the future! Perhaps, on the stage.

I struggled though it today. Upon finishing, I stormed from the piano into the kitchen. It didn't help that mom said, "It's sounding REALLY good."

The outburst ensues:

"HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT?"

*eyes swirling.*

"It was GARBAGE! Absolute garbage. The worst in a week!"

*a pause. Mom stirs sauce on the stovetop.*

"When is the piano tuner coming?"

"Friday."

"It's not soon enough! This needs to be into memory by Monday. And playing on a twangy piano does not help. At all!"

*Eve grabs empty Parmesan cheese canister and flings it across the room.* *dog scurries in the corner.*

I actually felt my blood pressure spike. Hmm. Not a good feeling.

If only I could channel this power and frustration into my interpretation. It's such a dramatic, and explosive piece.
